Katherine Berdovskiy
2025 Singing Scholarship Recipient
Katherine, a young singer from Davis, California, found her love for music early, inspired by her mother’s nightly lullabies sung in English, Belarusian, and Russian. By age three, she was singing along, and from that point on, she never missed a chance to perform—whether at local farmer’s markets or school talent shows. Her passion for performing deepened when she attended a musical theater camp at DMTC at age six, which led to her first stage role in *The Music Man* and a lasting connection to the performing arts.
DMTC became a second home, where Katherine was surrounded by performers whose dedication inspired her to develop her voice and creativity. But it was live performance that truly captured her heart. She thrives on the emotional exchange with audiences—the smiles, the tears, the applause. For her, singing is most powerful when it creates real human connection. It’s this shared experience that motivates her to keep growing as an artist.
Katherine’s resilience as a performer was tested during a vocal competition when the recorded accompaniment stopped mid-song. Undeterred, she continued without hesitation, embodying the spirit of “The show must go on.” With support from the Anthony Quinn Foundation, she will attend the San Francisco Conservatory of Music’s Summer Vocal Academy, where she plans to deepen her classical training and continue sharing her passion for music.
