Meet Jordan Towle, 2012 Scholarship Recipient
Jordan Towle is a painter and illustrator from Wakefield, RI who is currently in the 11th grade at South Kingstown High School. She will be using her scholarship to attend the Rhode Island School of Design, Continuing Education, Introduction to Figure Drawing and Painting Studio class this summer. What are your aspirations in your art form and/or career aspirations?
Whether I continue art as a career or hobby isn't really relevent; I make art for myself and if others enjoy it, it's just serendipity. I'll continue to make art regardless of what career I go into, because it makes me feel things and changes my perspective on living.
What do you do for fun? Do you have any interesting or unusual hobbies?
I read. I draw and paint. I sing. I write. I think. They aren't particularly unusual hobbies, but I like to think that the way I go about them is a little unique.
What is something unique about you that you would like people to know?
I really like humor and laughing. Sometimes I can be deadly serious, but you only see that if you're very close to me. I kind of live teetering on the edge of uncontrollable laughter and crying.
The image below is "Deer Lady," an acrylic painting on canvas that Jordan created this winter. She describes it as "a woman [depicted] in a somewhart surrealistic way, wearing nothing but a fur coat holding onto a very small deer.
