Jenny Thomas
2025 Instrumental Scholarship Recipient
Jenny, a passionate violinist from Austin, TX, finds deep fulfillment in using music to move and connect with others. She especially cherishes moments when her performances in nursing homes and hospitals bring smiles and comfort to audiences. For her, playing the violin is not only a creative outlet but also a form of therapy, allowing her to immerse herself in focused, meaningful practice. Artists like Joshua Bell and Michael Jackson have long inspired her, teaching her the value of emotion, performance, and relentless dedication.
Jenny began violin lessons at the age of four through the University of Texas’ String Project and has since studied with accomplished teachers, including William Fedkenheuer of the Miró Quartet. Her early music education was enriched by participation in youth orchestras, string quartets, and All-Region ensembles. Under Fedkenheuer’s guidance, she has learned to prioritize relaxation in her playing, which has helped refine her tone, technique, and musicality.
Through summer programs at Lamont Academy and Boston University Tanglewood Institute, Jenny developed a deeper appreciation for orchestral and contemporary music. These immersive experiences also sparked her love for chamber music and solidified her desire to pursue violin performance professionally. This summer, with support from the Anthony Quinn Foundation, she will continue her artistic growth at Madeline Island Chamber Music’s Strings Program.
