Aidan Weaver's Highlights at UNCSA
We recently received this update from 2014 AQF Scholarship Recipient Aidan Weaver:
It’s hard to believe that it has been over half of a year since my visit to Rhode Island for the Anthony Quinn Foundation Reception. I just wanted to tell you about some of the great things that have unfolded since then.
First of all, the experience at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts Summer Intensive was amazing. I learned many new things and met a lot of great people – both from the other students and the staff. Over the 5 weeks there, I worked together with a group of talented filmmakers to create a film for the festival held on the last day of camp. We ended up winning Best Drama, Best Visual Effects, and Best Cinematography out of 60 student films. I learned a lot from the camp, especially through the experience of making a film on a real set – and I am extremely glad that I went. During the summer I also entered into our city’s 48 Hour Film Festival and we ended up winning the most awards out of 28 teams, all of which were led by adults.
Since I last spoke with you and the other members of the foundation, I was at a point where I knew I wanted to be a filmmaker. Looking back on that shows me how far I have come, and how my love for filmmaking has grown incredibly with help from your foundation.
I recently began working on my biggest and most ambitious project yet, “Prism”. We have spent the last few months working on the script and will be shooting the first scene in November, which involves about 100 extras and a rented nightclub. For the first time, we are raising funds for the film’s budget through crowd funding on Indiegogo.
