Anthony Quinn: A Modernist Vision, A Focus Exhibition Opens at Bannister Gallery, Rhode Island College

The representational motifs central to Quinn's creative verb without question have a pathos with the modernist traditions of the 20th century. The exhibition has culled together a number of significant two and three dimensional pieces that have not been widely viewed by the public. These seamlessly assembled works will also serve as an opportunity for the ongoing formal aesthetic and scholarly examination of the visceral yet exacting craftsmanship founded in his compositions. This material could be said to be inspired by Quinn's fascination with the desert but the real focus is an artist compelled to find his voice while searching for nuance in an economy of gestural exploration that being the palette for a new art.
